Artist's StatementMy inspiration comes from color, light, nature and the love of the land. Living on a bluff overlooking the ocean gives me a constant source of inspiration. I paint images that I find in nature, from the play of light on a flower to the drama of a beautiful sunrise or sunset. My work is always evolving to express the richness of my experience of the world around me. To enhance the play of light in a landscape or the petal of a flower is learning to dance with the colors of nature. Painting for me is a way to express my joy of light and color. I have been a resident of Humboldt County for 36 years. My husband and I have a small ranch overlooking the sea where I can indulge in my love of flower gardening and horses. I have five horses: three rescued and two that I could not resist. I have been a painter most of my life. I grew up in Los Angeles, where I started attending oil painting classes at age 10. I became a china-painting instructor in the early ’70s and taught for 25 years. I have been in many china-painting shows and won many awards for my work. I retired from teaching due to health issues relating to toxic elements in the paints. I now paint in acrylics, which are non-toxic, and love the fluidity of the medium. To play with color is an endless adventure into a world of possibilities; to create excitement with light, color and movement helps my work come alive. |
